Track: Knowledge Management Challenges in Crowdsensing Applications
Crowdsensing, also referred as community sensing, participatory sensing or opportunistic sensing, ranges from the active involvement of individuals to contribute in data collection to a more autonomous sensing with less user involvement. It essentially varies by data source type: from mobile devices or from the Web. Typical approaches in mobile crowd sensing applications collect and process sensor data on devices and apply local analytic algorithms to produce consumable data for users. The data may then be modified to preserve privacy and is often sent to a backend for aggregation and mining. Web crowdsensing can also contribute with detailed data where proprietary data are extremely costly. Current technological developments allow the collection of huge amounts of such data that can be used to support urban computing. However, this is only possible if sensor data can be transformed into knowledge. Challenges in aggregating, organizing, linking such data are emerging as the next step in data collection from crowds. This special session will address practical techniques and methodologies in data representation and integration from several sources for Crowdsensing applications.
